What is Being the Change I Wish to See?

Being the Change I Wish to See is a blog (weblog) about the problems we see all around us every day. I believe one person can make a difference, and one way I’m making a difference is by writing about the problems and injustices I find out about or witness.

By making others aware of what’s going on in our world, many people will make changes in their lives and behaviors that will help to solve the world’s problems and injustices. Some may take on large projects, others may give to a charity, and still others may do small things such as holding the door for someone with arms full, listening to a troubled teen, planting a tree, calling or writing to a Congressperson or Senator, or mowing an elderly neighbor’s yard. Perhaps your next car will be a hybrid or an electric, and your next home improvement project will be adding solar panels onto your roof or installing a small wind turbine.

Every action, large or small, will add up to making positive changes and a better world for ourselves and our children.

You will find:

  • Articles on many topics about the direction the world is taking, from education to war to the environment to politics
  • Articles on ways to change some of the things going the wrong direction and get them going in a better direction
  • Book reviews
  • Suggested reading
  • Podcasts of note
  • Relevant videos

One thing I feel I need to say right off is I don’t have all the answers, and in many cases I’m still trying to figure out the questions. But when I do figure something out or find something wrong, I will do whatever I can to make it better or make it right.

The world will change whether we choose the direction or not. Let’s make better choices.

Who is Sherri Joubert?

On Being the Change I Wish to See content is written by me, Sherri Joubert, a single mom from Louisiana in the United States. I am a chemist by education and left the chemical industry at the end of 2003 as the result of a job elimination.

My mottoes are be the change that you wish to see in the world by Mahatma Gandhi, and those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. I don’t know who that quote was by, but it’s very true.

My ultimate goal is to be debt-free so I can become a real philanthropist. You can follow my journey to debt freedom at Debt Free or Bust.

Since January 2004, I embarked on a path of entrepreneurship from my home office. I started and failed with a financial advisory business, then went bankrupt. Missing science and needing extra income, I started tutoring high school math and science part-time in November 2006. I love working with students and seeing the light bulbs go on when they finally understand a difficult concept. Many of my students are “square pegs”, and my goal is to teach them in ways that don’t require that they fit into round holes.

In April 2007, I decided to learn how to earn at least a part-time income online. The online income path has led to blogging part-time. I’ve always been an avid writer and have kept journals for years before discovering blogging. Now I can write about things I want a large number of people to read and hopefully benefit in the process.

In 2008, math and science tutoring became my full-time job, and blogging is still a part-time income that has increased over time.

Needing a little more extra cash in 2010, I started delivering pizzas part-time. It’s a big learning experience and a great reminder of why I finished college. It is helping to motivate me to do a lot more with my tutoring business and increase my online income.

Thanks for reading. I hope you will find ways you can be the change, too.

    Bonjour Sherri!

Thanks to your dropping by my place, I am now dropping by yours. And what a beautiful place it is.

Congratulations for the mission you’ve given yourself, the (web) world needs more dedicated people like you. I especially enjoyed reading about your goal to help the “square pegs” learn without having them fit into round holes. Amen to that!!

Now that I’ve discovered this oasis of thought and change, I’ll be following your journey and surely learning a thing or two about how I can bring about a better world.

Big hugs and lots of LOVE,

I’ve been included in taxes for longer then I care to acknowledge, both on the individual side (all my working life story!!) and from a legal point of view since satisfying the bar and following up on tax law. I’ve provided a lot of advice and righted a lot of wrongs, and I must say that what you’ve posted makes impeccable sense. Please uphold the good work – the more individuals know the better they’ll be equipped to comprehend with the tax man, and that’s what it’s all about.

Hi, I’m thinking about advertising on your site, how much do you charge per month?

$20 per month for a text-link ad; $30 per month for a 25×25 picture ad.
