Senator Obama is still traveling the world, meeting with the peoples and leaders of a number of nations. This speech summarizes his ideas of the world as it stands and as it will grow in the 21st century.
I believe what Senator Obama says is true, and speaks to my own beliefs. We no longer have the luxury of an isolationist, nationalist-only view. We are North Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians, Australians, South Americans, and Antarticans. But we are more importantly Earthlings. We are more importantly citizens of the world we live in.
I still haven’t decided who I will vote for to be the next President of the United States. But as a U.S. Senator, Barack Obama already has a key leadership role in our government as does Senator John McCain.
No matter who becomes our next President, these world values must be held dear. As one of the most powerful nations on Earth, the United States has a responsibility to lead the world to be the best it can be. We must use our power to wage peace more strongly than we can wage war. We must lead to find the solutions that make lasting peace a reality for all people. We must lead to find the economic solutions that make prosperity a reality for all people. We must lead to find the solutions that make full equality a reality for all people. We must lead to find the solutions that make equal opportunity for all people. We must lead to end the horrors of terrorism and genocide permanently in all places on the globe where they exist and keep them from ever happening again.
Our next president will have very large responsibilities, not just to the American people, but to the world. We are a world leader, and we must step up to the plate and lead.
